Silver Connections members want to enjoy a wide variety of local events and various travel opportunities in a group atmosphere as a safe and effective way to develop new friendships and socialize. Silver Connections is open for membership to active seniors, single men and women, age 55 plus. THE TYPICAL MEMBER OF SILVER CONNECTIONS IS: A widowed or divorced individual A person who has just relocated to the Triangle. Someone who does not feel comfortable in huge, impersonal groups. An individual who wishes to expand their friendship circle or who has many married friends, but would enjoy being with others who are also single. A person who is tired of attending events alone and wants to have others to enjoy activities with. An individual who is working and feels they have no real life outside of work. Someone who would like events and outings planned for them. A retired individual who misses the interaction with others that work provided. A person who feels they are in a "rut" and is ready to get out and enjoy life!

As long as you are age 55 and over, you are eligible to join. Although, this is not a group for an individual who needs assitance or is frail as there are other wonderful organizations available. We have members in their mid-late fifties and members in their 60's and 70's. It is not about age as much as ability and desire to engage with others, use the internet for emails and have transportation. If you are turning 55 in the current membership year, you are eligible to join. We have members working full time, part time and those who are retired!

No, we are not! That is what makes Silver Connections different from some other groups. We think there are enough dating and matchmaking services available out there to choose from. We offer events and travel, planned for both men and women, to meet each other and have the opportunity to make good friends and new connections. If something more eventually transpires, then that is an added gift! There is no pressure or competition at our events and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. We have had individuals meet in Silver Connections and even get married, but that is not the goal or the purpose to join the group.

Our events cover a wide range of activities for those age 55+ to participate in and enjoy while meeting new friends! They can include anything from dining (brunch, lunch, dinner) at area restaurants, cultural events (theater, symphony, museums, historical tours, etc.), dancing, sporting events, wine tasting, exercising, supper clubs, seminars, happy hours, house parties, food tours, movies, festivals….the list goes on and on! Travel opportunities are also offered to our members as Silver Connections has partnered with several travel agencies and offers trip options throughout the year. The advantage is that you can get to know others at local events and take those friendships on the road! Travel is not required to be a member of Silver Connections as local events are the main component of our group, but travel is an option offered as part of membership.

Some of our events require payment by the member at the event itself and some have payment required ahead of time (theater, symphony, etc.) The owner has formed many positive relationships in the last 15 years with the venues in the Triangle area and group rates and/or 55+ rates are offered to members. The price has been negotiated ahead of time with a venue by Silver Connections and that savings is passed on to the members. The owner of Silver Connections works very hard to make events "price friendly!"

Only those who are members of Silver Connections are permitted to attend events, but you may bring a guest (one visit/guest) to an event as a member. Invitations to events are sent out via email ahead of time with plenty of time to sign-up. The invitation has all details about the event and where you can RSVP Yes or No. There is never any pressure to attend an event. Although the more events a member attends, the more people they will meet and the more fun experiences they will have! With a variety of events to choose from, there is something for everyone! The day before the event, final details are always sent out to each member attending. Although general information about Silver Connections is available for the public to view, other pages are private and will require a personal user name and password to enter and are available only to Silver Connections members.

Once you join, your year begins the day you join until the same date the following year. There is never any monthly or additional fee. There is also no minimum or maximum as far as events you are required to attend every month. You can pick every month what you would like to attend, as many or as few events as you would like. Walking into a room full of strangers can be nerve-wracking - to say the least! The owner is very aware of this and introduces everyone so that they feel comfortable. One of the many reasons the owner meets with every potential member before they join is because she has talked with you, knows a little about you, and will welcome you when you arrive for your first event. The owner's commitment is to make sure each member feels comfortable. Every Silver Connections member was new at one time to the group and has many shared experiences and commonalities. Our members are very open and accepting....once you attend an event, you will see how easy and comfortable you will feel and want to attend more!

You can contact the owner, Laura Kay House, directly by e-mail at: lkhouse@silverconnections.org A personal confidential meeting will be set up at a time that is convenient for you, at a coffee shop or bookstore café. Every potential member will meet with the owner, one on one, without pressure or obligation. The purpose of this get-together is for you to learn about Silver Connections and ask any questions you may have. It also gives the owner a chance to learn more about you and offer you a packet of information. If you decide to join Silver Connections, you can pay the membership fee by personal check or you may pay online with any major credit/debit card or with PayPal. We look forward to hearing from you!
